PREN Speaks Louder Than Brochures
Duplex 2205 sits at PREN ~35; Super Duplex 2507 climbs above 41. The difference defines the chloride-pitting threshold and the operating temperature ceiling.
Mechanical Edge
2507 delivers ~50% higher yield strength than austenitic 316L, allowing thinner wall sections and lighter modules — a major capex saver in offshore.
Watch Out For
Both grades are sensitive to sigma-phase precipitation. Strict heat-input control, solution annealing and PMI testing on every weld are non-negotiable.
Where Each Wins
Use 2205 for FPSO topsides, desalination and pulp & paper. Step up to 2507 for sea-water service, heat exchangers in chloride-bearing brines and aggressive subsea hardware.
